Earth resistance test (ER Test) standard operating procedure (SOP)

Procedure

Connect the green, yellow, and red wires to terminals E, P & C of the quartet tester meter as shown in the diagram. Then connect the red and yellow wire with P&C and the green wire with earth belly or earth rod as shown in the diagram

  1. If the push button is pressed and the operating induction is not ON, it means that there is an open circuit between the test pins.

  2. Set the range switch to the appropriate scale and place the function switch on ohm then press the push button to check the induction value.

  1. If the test electrode C is very close, it will overlap the resistance areas, which will cause changes in the measurement of resistance as the voltage is transferred to the test electrode.

  2. We should use water and salt in earth pits to minimize the value of resistance and to correct the value.

Test quality

  1. Make sure that the voltage reading is less than 10V, otherwise the value of ground resistance will not be correct.

  2. Resistance value should be less than 10 ohms otherwise it is not acceptable. This earth tester is designed and checked according to Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE-81-2012).
